How to change your bearings on your Twister T4 Trimmer
Posted by Scott Hober on
Today I am going to show you how to do a bearing overhaul on a Twister T4 trimmer.
It's a good idea to use a clamp or something to hold the reel blade (example shown above) when you do this, so that you don't damage the new bearings as your putting them in. After you have removed all the screws that hold on the face plate.
Now that you have face plate off you can begin to take the bearing out you have to start by taking out the reel blade outer seal first. (shown below)
Now that you have the outer seal out, you should be able to see the INTERNAL RETAINING RING 36MM. Next you have to pull out that retaining ring it will take a pear of retaining ring pliers, or something else that works, its nice to use the retaining ring pliers though, saves a lot of headache getting the retaining ring out.(shown below).
Now that you have the retaining ring out your going to flip the bearing plate assembly around, so that you can see the small side of the bearing. Now your going to use a set of bearing pullers or a rubber mallet and a socket to fit the inner or outer ring on the bearings. Use your rubber mallet and the socket to tap the bearings out. Push the bearing out of the big side, through the small side (shown below).
Now that you have the bearing out you should clean out all of the old grease. Make it completely clean and dry inside the bearing hole, your going to put new grease in it at the end anyway. Now you can get out your new pack of bearings.
Start by putting in the REEL BLADE INNER SEAL T4. (Its the smaller of the two seals that the kit comes with) then you can put the t4 REEL BLADE BEARING in next if your on the left side. If your on the right side with the two pulleys you will need to insert the wave washer at this point. Once you have put the REEL BLADE BEARING in you can now put the new INTERNAL RETAINING RING 36MM back on, and the REEL BLADE OUTER SEAL T4 (larger bearing seal).
So at this point it should be looking like this (shown above), if your bearing is properly inserted its time to put the BEARING PLATE ASSEMBLY back on. Use the lock tight that the kit comes with to lock in the threads, so they don't vibrate loose.
Now you should be able to switch your efforts to the other side if your t4 looks like this now, and everything has gone back together correctly.
The only differences to changing the bearing on the other side is that you will first have to remove the larger pulley to get the bearings. (shown below)
All together there are 3 set screws in this pulley that you will need to use a small allen wrench on to get them out of there. There is one in the outside of the pulley (shown above), and two more set screws in the inside of the pulley.
After you have the pulley off repeat the steps taken to get the bearings in and out of the other side. Only difference being that your also going to add a wave washer on this side between the REEL BLADE INNER SEAL T4 (smaller bearing seal) and the REEL BLADE BEARING.
